Producer Profile
The South Devon vineyard sits in a south-facing bowl on the banks of the River Dart.
The unique climate and beauty of the Dart Valley is captured within every bottle.
As Sharpham Wine, they have been carefully nurturing and crafting English wines from the beautiful Dart Valley vineyards for the past 40 years, and they strive to continue this legacy and tradition in our their home at Sandridge Barton.
The Sandridge Barton vineyard was planted in 2008, 3 kilometres downriver from the original vineyard on the Sharpham Estate, and these vines now produce over 80 tonnes of grapes a year from 32 acres.
With breath-taking views across the river and beyond, the site lies in a south-facing bowl that gently slopes towards the Dart, benefitting from the warming influence of the tidal river as well as the Devon sunshine. They apply a very gentle approach to growing grapes, being concious of the impact on the natural environment and spray no pesticides or herbicides, relying on underground cover crops and extensive canopy management.
Tasting Note
A subtly oxidative, broad traditional-method fizz, aged for a minimum of 20 months on lees. Oak-aged base wine adds savoury depth and gentle richness. Baked red apple, sultana and cinnamon on the nose, with a dry palate of toasted spice, soft texture and a fine mousse. Recently picked up a Gold Medal at the Global Sparkling Wine Masters and a Gold Medal at the WineGB West Awards.
Sparkling wines are super versatile. This one pairs perfectly with oysters, smoked salmon, fried chicken, sushi or even seaside fish and chips.
