In 2006 Breda’s dream became a reality with the opening of her own restaurant, formed from a lifetime of experience and a highly successful catering business. Nestled in the historic village of Whalley, in the stunning Ribble Valley, the restaurant has been an opportunity for Breda to present her own signature cuisine and make her mark.
From the very start the restaurant featured in the Michelin Food Guide, The Good Food Guide, Hardens and a string of articles were written in The Times, The Sunday Telegraph, Sainsbury’s and Olive Magazines, and achieved a No 1 rating on Trip Advisor. Fast forward to 2020 and LUXLife magazine voted Breda Murphy, ‘The best contemporary British Restaurant in the UK’.
Of course the Coronavirus pandemic has brought spells of closure this past year, but the story will continue shortly, and in the meantime the restaurant can now come to your home instead!
The legacy continues.

The best Friday Night Chippy Tea in 40 years. Taste, style, quality, Breda Murphy has it all. Friday night chippy tea was an extra special treat; crisp batter with steamed fish inside, gorgeous chips, mushy peas and home-made tartar sauce. The best Friday night chippy tea in 40 years.

Saturday night. Ate here on 12th September in the evening. Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff. Relatively short menu, but well thought out. Excellent arancini, duck and halibut. It’s a pleasure eating here.

Birthday Treat Late lunch as a birthday treat. 3 courses each - beautifully presented . Tasty Arancini - I could have eaten them again ! Gnocchi for a main - freshly made with summer veg & Parmesan cream - delicious. Creme brûlée for dessert - could have eaten it twice . Great service - nice to chat to Breda who seems to be enjoying being front of house , very welcoming. Managed to nip to the pantry & got a lasagne for tomorrow's tea!

Unfortunately disappointed We had heard so much about this restaurant so we booked for our anniversary. Unfortunately we felt really deflated. It did not live up to its award winning status. Unless waiting nearly an hour for a starter of pate and toast is considered acceptable if you have an award. I would have walked out but because we dont know the area and were starving by this time had no option but to wait it out.The waitress was lovely and I felt sorry for her as she came to us to let us know the food wouldn't be long now. So she obviously thought it was taking too long. I was really surprised when Breda herself came out to ask of we wanted more toast then appeared with it when we had nearly finished giving the excuse that it wasn't commercially made bread. Which I found rather a strange thing to say because wether it be commercially made or not it doesn't take 15 minutes to slice and toast a few pieces of bread. I wouldnt mind but there was no extra butter given or extra pate for that matter considering how long we had been waiting. Or any gushing apologies. This maybe the norm here I don't know? Anyway the pate was nice but not amazing. We then waited another 30 minutes for the main course I had the fish which was cooked well but tasteless it had a bitter and acidic taste to the entire dish and far too much of a burnt buttery taste. I ate it because I was starving but not my cup of tea at all. Maybe to some taste but not mine. My husband had the duck which was overcooked. The salsa verde was not pleasant but again maybe it was just not to our taste. The potatoes which my husband had to pay separately for with his meal were hard in the middle and tasteless. We were going to have a desert because i wanted to wash away the taste of the main with something fruity but couldn't bear to sit there any longer. Like I say this is supposed to be an award winning restaurant. Considering they knew it was our anniversary when we booked no extra effort was made to make our night special the only memorable part was that it was the longest I have ever had to wait in an an award winning restaurant. I was also surprised that it wasn't Breda herself cooking instead she chose to wait tables. Curious to why that was! I could not understand why they were also selling paintings for thousands of pounds. Maybe this was to enhance their status. I have no clue. We will not be visiting again. Sorry but that is my honest review no lies just as it happened and in my own opinion. Your experience may be totally different. Or maybe they were having a bad night. Either way I would still not return.

Silver Wedding Anniversary Meal We took our parents and children to Breda Murphy on a wet and windy Sunday to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary. The food, wine and service were exceptional. Thank you to Breda and her team for making our celebration very special.

Perfect evening Excellent food, friendly service, delicious gin. Plenty of room around and on the table, which is a lovely change from often-cramped restaurants. Everything was delicious - enjoyed in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

Following the government’s announcement our restaurant is temporarily closed. Thank you to everyone for your support, your kindness and messages and we are planning to be open again soon.
